Downloading Files |
What does "Error 404" mean? |
The
link you followed is dead. The file is probably removed or deleted.
It's not possible to download the file anymore. The direct links here
are checked every 24 hours, so reporting is not necessary. |
What does "Error 403 - Permission Denied" mean? |
The
server removed the file and you don't have permission to download the
file anymore. In most cases the link will be replaced as soon as possible,
so reporting it to me is not necessary. |
Why do I get to see strange signs, like #@$%^* when I try to download something ? |
Some
older versions of Netscape try to open the file from its location. You
will have to hold SHIFT and leftclick to download correctly or rightclick
and choose "Save file/target as...". |
I can't connect to the server. |
The
server is probably down. Just wait till the server is up again. Sometimes
this takes hours, but in most cases the problem will be resolved quickly. |
When I click on a link I receive the message "server busy". |
The
server has too much people on it and is too busy. Just wait a few minutes
and try again. If you keep getting the "server is busy" message come
back at another time. |
The download freezes or breakes after downloading a while and the file is incomplete. |
Download
Getright from the Utilz. With this program you can resume
your downloads, so you don't have to start all over again. I recommend
this program if you want to download large files (more than 1,5 MB).
|
I can't resume my downloads with Getright. |
Go
to "Run" at the start menu and enter "regedit". This will start the
application that lets you edit the registry. Go to the directory "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HeadLight\GetRight\Config".
This is where you can change settings in GetRight. Right-click and select
"New -> DWORD-value", then change the name of the new DWORD-value
to "Referer" and make sure the value is set to zero. Now you can download
from all sites without any problems! If you think this is too difficult
for you then I recommend using another download manager like Go!Zilla.
You can download Go!Zilla from the Utilz. |
The download doesn't open in Getright, but in a regular window. |
The
server where the file is located doesn't resume automaticly or the extension
of the file isn't recognized by Getright. What you should do is copy
the URL (http://...) of the song (Copy shortcut), then open Getright
from your systray, go to "file", click on "enter new URL" and press
"ok". Getright will download the file now. |
File Problems |
I have downloaded a song, but it doesn't play. |
What
you should do is drag and drop the file into your player (Winamp). When
the file doesn't play it is zipped. Rename the file to .zip or drag
and drop the file into Winzip. Just unzip the file and you're done.
|
I have tried to unzip a file, but get the message "invalid zip file". |
The
file you have downloaded probably isn't zipped, but just renamed to
.zip. Look what the indicated format is and rename the file. Now the
song should play. |
What should I do with .class/.viv/.pdf, etc files? |
You
only have to rename the extension to .mp3. When the file has been renamed
to .mp3 and doesn't play, rename it to .zip and try to unzip it. Be
creative! |
I don't know how to rename a file. |
Renaming
is very easy. First you will have to make sure that you can view the
extensions (for instance .exe, .mp3, .sit) of the files in your computer.
Go to "My Computer". In the menu click on "View" and choose "Folder
Options" in the pulldown menu. In the next screen click on the tab "View".
Look under "Advanced Settings/Files and Folders/Hidden files". Disable
the function "Hide file extensions for known file types". Click OK.
You are now back in "My Computer". Just right-click on any file you
want to rename and choose "Rename". |
Why don't you use the original extension for all the files? |
Renaming
has become a must, because when you don't rename the files they will
be deleted from the server immediately. Now the server won't recognize
the file and will last longer on the server. |
Why don't you really zip the songs? |
The
songs are already compressed, so zipping them is useless. The size of
the file remains almost the same. And the disadvantage when you really
zip the songs is, that you cannot listen to the song while downloading
it. |
The song sounds scrambled or stops halfway. |
Download
Uncook from the Utilz and uncook the
song. Always make a back-up of the song. Do not uncook when the songs
sounds good! |
Ripping/Encoding/Decoding/Burning |
What is a CD ripper? |
With
a CD ripper you can easily copy the audio tracks from a CD to a WAV
file. Not all CD-ROM players can do this. You must have a CD-ROM player
that read RAW. |
None of the CD rippers are working. |
You
must have a CD-ROM player that can read RAW, not all the CD-ROM players
are able to do that. The one thing to do for you is buy a new CD ROM
player or use a WAV recorder like Cool Edit or Gold Wave. |
Is it possible to make a WAV file of a song without using the CD-ROM player? |
Yes,
of course. Just connect the audio source (tape deck, MD-player, CD-player)
to your computer through the line-in of your soundcard. Now you can
record the sound with a program like Cool Edit or Gold Wave. |
What is an encoder? |
With
an encoder you can compress large audio files (WAV) to a smaller format
(MP3, VQF, etc.). Encoding takes about 2 to 12 minutes for one song.
You can download one at the Utilz. |
What is a decoder? |
With
an decoder you can convert MP3/VQF files to WAV. Decoding takes about
3 to 6 minutes for one song (4 MB). You can download one at the
Utilz. |
How do I get MP3 files on a audio CD that can play in an ordinary CD player? |
You
need three things. Of course a CD burner, a MP3 to WAV converter and
a CD burning program. So, first download MP3 2 WAV. With this program you can
easily convert your MP3 files. Remember that decoded files are very
large (about 40 MB), so make sure that you have plenty of HD free. After
you have converted the files, load the CD burning program. Most likely
you got that already when you purchased your CD burner. One of the best
programs available is Adaptec's Easy CD Pro 3.5. Unfortunately this
program is not available at the Utilz, you will need to buy it or search
the Internet real hard. If do you got that program, choose "Create Audio
Disc" and add the WAV files you want. That's it! |
Miscellaneous |
Can Winamp play VQF files? |
Yes,
just download the plugin for VQF files from the Utilz and your Winamp is ready. Unzip
the file into the plugin map. You need at least Winamp 2.0 for this. |
Where can I find (... song name ...)? |
Just
use the search engine to locate a song you need. All the songs on this
site are all the songs I have found. New ones are added almost every
day, so don't ask me to find a song for you. |
You main page says a new song is added, but I can't find in one of the lists. |
The
song WAS added, but has already been removed by the download server.
The download link has been removed from this site too. You will have
to wait till the song has been re-added or use the search engine to
locate a new address. |
I have a song request. |
Unfortunately
I don't do any song requests. I'd go nuts if I do this. I get more than
40 e-mails a day with questions and comments and that's more than enough
I think. Hey, I got a life... If you like the song so much, just go
out and buy the record. |
I want to exchange links with you. |
Just
send me an e-mail with the URL, site name and a description and I will
add your site to the link list as soon as possible. Make sure that you
have linked me on your website before sending an e-mail. And you must
have 3000 visitors at least to get a link here. |
